Dua Lipa was so nervous about her Brit Awards performance she wore her underwear inside out for good luck.
The superstitious New Rules star was a wreck backstage before she wowed the crowd at the ceremony back in February, and to combat her nerves ahead of hitting the stage, she adopted an old family trick to ward off misfortune by quickly changing her "knickers".
In a new V Magazine interview with Katy Perry, she explains, "Before my Brit Awards performance, I was so worried that I was gonna jinx my performance by being so nervous – so I wore my knickers inside out, under my outfit."
The plan worked – her performance was flawless and the singer went on to pick up the Best British Female Solo Artist honor and the British Breakthrough Act award.
Dua admits her superstitions follow her on tour – and when she and her crew don't follow them, bad things happen.
"I'm really superstitious," she tells Katy. "First I'll warm up, drink lots of tea, hang out with my band. If people in the room don't have anything in their cups, they aren't allowed to (say) cheers. Not just before a show, but ever.
"Before a show in Stockholm, my band thought it'd be funny to (say) cheers with water before our show. I was so mad at them, and we went onstage and literally everything went wrong. Everything.
