Kim Kardashian's weekend is getting off to a sad start after it was announced that the reality star's kitten Mercy passed away after only 4 months. Sources close to the star confirmed the news to E! News, who reveal the cat died due to a cancer-like virus often associated with breeding.
The fluffy feline was a gift from Kim's boyfriend Kanye West, but after discovering she'd developed an allergy to cats, Kim gave Mercy to her sister Khloe's assistant Sydney Hitchcock. Kim knew that Mercy would be in a home full of love since Sydney recently lost her cat of 12 years.
On December 7th, Kim broke the news to her fans via her blog, revealing "It is with deep sadness that I have to tell you all that my kitten, Mercy, has passed away. My heart is completely broken."
Mercy had shown no signs of illness, but on November 26th Sydney's boyfriend had called to inform her that the cat was limp and not moving. The scared woman rushed Mercy to the vet, where she got terrible news that the cat had contracted a fatal virus in her stomach, which acts like cancer.
Since Sydney's vet told her that not even aggressive treatment would help the cat, she decided to have her euthanized instead of letting her suffer.
"It broke not only my heart that little Mercy died at only four months old, but Sydney's too," Kim wrote. "Mercy was a gentle and loving kitten and we are all going to miss her so much. Thanks to Sydney for making Mercy's short life one filled with love."
