President Obama got a little help from his friends over the weekend, as Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry raised more than $5 million with two fundraisers- one in Chicago and another in Atlanta.
Perry's southwest Atlanta studio played host to a gala event, which featured a memorable performance by Cee Lo Green. Tickets for the star-studded event ranged from $500 for general admission to $2,500 and $10,000 for VIP.
Obama then joined Perry at his sprawling 30,000 square foot French provincial mansion along the Chattahoochee River, along with Winfrey and 40 other elite guests. These guests shelled out a cool $35,800 per plate to dine with the president.
Money raised at the event went to the Obama Victory Fund, which is a joint account for the president’s campaign organization and the Democratic National Committee. Federal Election Commission reports show that Obama has raised $140 million for his re-election campaign through the end of January.
