Academy Award Winning actress Tatum O'Neal, 48, has struggled with drugs problems for most of her life. She recalls being as young as 15 when her father Ryan O'Neil told her to use cocaine as a way of fighting her weight problems at the time.
Since then, her life has been a constant struggle to stay sober, and she recently fell off the wagon again. Her rough relationship with her father didn't help matters at all. Tatum spoke on the rocky relationship she has had with her father, and how his abuse further lead her down the path she is on now:
"My father had an abusive streak a mile wide. There was always a slugging thing. Or a backhand, or a throwing out of the car, or whatever. It was rough, just rough around the house."
She is currently at a rehab facility that is being funded by her half brother, Redmond O'Neal, 27, who is also seeking court ordered treatment for heroin addiction. The cost of her rehab has been reported at $100,000.
A source close to Tatum spoke up about her current situation at this facility:
"Tatum allegedly made the decision to voluntarily check into rehab after having a relapse about a month ago when she began using cocaine again,' a source told the website. However, Tatum is at a rehab facility that doesn't follow the 12 step AA model, which doesn't bode well for her success. Tatum is doing really, really bad at the facility she is at. Tatum isn't at a 12 step based treatment program, and that is a huge problem because someone with Tatum's addiction needs to be at a rehab facility like Betty Ford or Cirque Lodge which adhere to the 12 step model. Tatum is essentially in denial about how bad her addiction is. Tatum is refusing to embrace the 12 step AA model to get sober."
Let's all keep our fingers crossed and pray that she can clean herself up again.
