Nicky Hilton's ex-husband lost $1.6 million after his personal assistant stole his identity. It was 10 months before Todd Meister noticed the cash, allegedly stolen by his employee Renata Shamrakova was missing.
Shamrakova is accused of stealing Meister's banking information and using his credit card to splurge on jewelry and exotic vacations.
While working at his New York town house, Shamrakova applied for an American Express credit card in Meister's name - then added herself as a secondary user. The shopping spree began last April, with the assistant using his credit card to have expensive items delivered directly to her apartment.
An $800,000 credit card bill was paid off with money from Meister's JP Morgan checking account - the assistant apparently accessed it and transferred the money to American Express. Meister notified the police when he spotted the money was missing, and Shamrakova was arrested four days later.
She's been charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, identity theft and forgery.
