A fruitcake made in 1941 was returned thirty years after its purchase to a Cincinnati Kroger grocery store and held by the store manager until now, when it sold to a man in Arizona for $525.
'This neat old tin has the original label and most of the original box. Aged and one of those items everyone talks about and now you can own,' Elite Estate Group enticed buyers through its website.
The auctioneer, Larry Chaney told ABCNews.com that he had received interested buyers in the cake from Florida, North Carolina, South Dakota as well as others.
'People tell us that they'd be willing to try it,' Mr Chaney said. 'It's just a neat novelty.'
Often soaked in brandy or other spirits, fruitcakes often have a notably long shelf-life thanks to the alcohol's preservation.
I think I'll pass.
