Cardi B, Bts, Taylor Swift and Post Malone were the early winners at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening.
Cardi B picked up the Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Artist and used her acceptance speech to honor her baby daughter, insisting motherhood hasn’t slowed her down.
“I really want to thank my daughter, and not just because she’s my daughter,” she said. “When I was pregnant, I was so influenced to be like, ‘Yo, I gotta do this. I gotta show people wrong’. I gotta prove people wrong because they said I wasn’t going to make it after I had a baby.”
Meanwhile, Post Malone was named Favorite Male Pop/Rock Artist, and K-Pop sensations BTS continued their amazing 2018 by landing the Favorite Social Artist honor.
Taylor, who scored the Tour of the Year prize, also opened the show, marking her first live TV performance in three years and her first at the AMAs since 2014.
She belted out I Did Something Bad from her hit reputation album, and rocked the stage at the Microsoft Theater in a sparkly black body suit and boots, after arriving on the red carpet outside in an eye-catching metallic Balmain disco ball mini-dress.
Swift’s rendition of the defiant song came just a day after she released a heartfelt statement encouraging fans to vote. The post, shared via Instagram, marked the first time the pop sensation had expressed her political views – she revealed she was supporting Democrats in her adopted Tennessee.
