James Franco celebrated his Golden Globe nod for The Disaster Artist by gathering his fellow nominated actors for a special dinner on the eve of the Hollywood ceremony.
The 127 Hours star was shortlisted for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for his portrayal of quirky filmmaker Tommy Wiseau, and to mark the occasion, he decided to follow in Whoopi Goldberg’s footsteps and host a celebratory get-together in Los Angeles with his peers.
Explaining how the celebrity night out came about, James told E! News, “I was asked by someone, ‘Are you enjoying this (awards season)?’ and I said, ‘I think I am,’ and he said, ‘You know what Whoopi Goldberg did when she was nominated for an Oscar? She invited out all the other female nominees,’ and I thought, ‘Yeah, why not? How many times does this happen in your life?’. And so I invited all the supporting actors and (leading) actors in comedy and drama out to dinner: Tom Hanks, Gary Oldman, Sam Rockwell, everyone. It was incredible.”
The guests also included Timothee Chalamet, Steve Carell, Richard Jenkins, Hugh Jackman, Ansel Elgort, Daniel Kaluuya, and Armie Hammer, who shared a photo of the star-studded group on social media early on Sunday, hours before they all hit the red carpet for the 2018 Golden Globe Awards.
“Thank you #jamesfranco for hosting a dinner for all of the actors nominated for a Golden Globe… it was a special evening I’m sure none of us will forget,” Armie captioned the picture.
